The game in one sentence

One name, up or down, before the bell: your day is how far it moved your way, ten ticks a percent, and a right call pays a Circle point a tick, up to a hundred a day.

The rules

1. Hunch is free to play. There is no stake, no purchase and no fee. You need a member account and a Circle enrolment, both free.
2. Before the bell, call one name up or down. Your day is how far it moved your way, ten ticks a percent.
3. A right call earns one Circle point a tick, up to 100 points a day. A wrong call earns nothing and costs ticks only. There are as many day prizes as right calls; whether a call is right depends on the market.
4. The month's champion, the most ticks over the month's sessions, earns 1,000 Circle points.
5. Points are paid after you answer a skill-testing question in the app. A prize not claimed within 30 days lapses.
6. Circle's monthly limit on bonus points applies; a prize is trimmed to fit it.
7. The board shows your first name, your photo and your call to other members, and the morning paper may name your day. Leave any time.
8. Nothing here is advice, and a call is not an investment. No money moves.

The small print

Who runs it. Jilani Place Inc., a company incorporated in Ontario with its office at 295 The West Mall, Suite 700, Etobicoke, Ontario M9C 4Z4. Questions go to info@jilaniplace.com.

Who may play. Anyone with a Floor app member account and a Circle enrolment. Both are free, and neither needs a tenancy, a membership fee or a purchase of any kind. You must be 18 or older, as our Terms of Use require for any account.

When.Every day the New York Stock Exchange trades is a round. Calls close at the opening bell, 9:30 a.m. Eastern, and a round is scored at the close, 4:00 p.m. Eastern, or 1:00 p.m. on the exchange's early-close days. Each calendar month is a season. The game runs until we end it, with notice in the app.

How a round is scored.Your score is the percent your name moved from the day's opening print to its closing print, in the direction you called, times ten; a call the wrong way scores that much below zero. The prints come from our market data provider. A Toronto name is scored on its close alone. A name with no print that day scores zero. A round is settled once, about twenty minutes after the close, and a print that arrives later does not reopen it.

The prizes and what they are worth.Every right call earns Circle points, one per tick, up to 100 points in a day. There is no limit on how many members can earn a day prize: every right call earns one. The member with the most ticks over the month's rounds earns 1,000 Circle points. A Circle point is worth one cent of credit at Jilani Place, so a day prize is worth up to $1 and the month's prize $10. Circle points are not cash, cannot be transferred, and are governed by the Circle programme's own terms.

How a winner is decided. By the market and by you. There is no draw and no element of chance in who is offered a prize: a call that was right earns one, and a call that was wrong does not. To receive a prize you must answer an arithmetic skill-testing question in the app.

Claiming. A prize waits in the app until you answer its question. A prize not claimed within 30 days lapses. The Circle programme limits the bonus points any member may receive in a month; a prize that would exceed that limit is trimmed to fit it.

What other members see. While you play, members of Jilani Place see your first name, your photo, your call and your result on the board, and the morning paper in the app may name your day. You can leave the game at any time from the app, and you then come off every board that follows. Our Privacy Policy covers the game in section 10.

Not advice, and no stake. Nothing in Hunch is investment advice, a recommendation or a market. A call is a move in a game, not a trade, and no money changes hands. Prices shown in the app are delayed by at least fifteen minutes and may be wrong; the game settles on the prints it has.

Changes. We may change these rules or end the game with notice in the app. A change never moves a round that has settled or a prize already earned.
