The Crown, the rules

Changed October 4, 2026: employees of Jilani Place and Cafe 295 can play but cannot win; the prize is collected in person at Cafe 295 while it is open, and if the cafe cannot serve it you get a drink of equal or greater value; a pour must start before 9pm Sunday and finish within two minutes; and the rules below are now word for word the ones the app shows.

Changed October 2, 2026: every pour in a week now uses the same five cups, and collecting the prize no longer needs a Circle join. Before this, each pour's cups varied a little (a cup's speed by up to 8%, its line between 62% and 86% full); scores already set this week stand. Earlier the same day, the prize changed from any drink to any espresso or matcha drink.

The Crown is a game inside the Floor, the app for members of Jilani Place. Pour five cups to the line; the best score of the week holds the Crown. These are the rules the app shows under How it works.

The game in one sentence

Stop five cups at the line, beat the week's best score to take the Crown, and hold it at 9pm Sunday to win a free espresso or matcha drink; staff can play but can't win.

The rules

Milk rises in five cups, each faster than the last. Tap to stop each one at the line. The closer you stop, the higher your score, out of 100. Stop past the brim and that cup scores nothing.
Every pour in a week uses the same five cups, so everyone faces the same speeds and lines. Your score comes from your timing.
You get three pours a day. A pour counts as soon as it starts.
The best score of the week holds the Crown. To take it you have to beat it. A tie stays with whoever got there first.
The week runs from midnight Monday to 9pm Sunday, Toronto time. Whoever holds the Crown at 9pm Sunday wins the week's prize. A new week starts at midnight.
The prize is one espresso or matcha drink from the menu at Cafe 295, 295 The West Mall, Etobicoke, collected in person while the cafe is open. The prize does not expire.
There is one prize a week. It appears in the app under gifts waiting for you. You don't need to join the Circle to collect it: open it at the counter and show the code within 30 minutes. A code that lapses puts the drink back for you.
If the cafe cannot serve it, we give you a drink of equal or greater value. Jilani Place, not Cafe 295, is responsible for the prize.
Employees of Jilani Place Inc. and Cafe 295 may play but cannot win the prize. If one of them holds the Crown at 9pm Sunday, the prize goes to the best score of the week by a player who can win.
The prize can only be collected in person in Etobicoke, Ontario.
Your name, photo and best score are shown to other members, and the week's leader is named at the top of the Floor.

The small print

Who runs it. Jilani Place Inc., a company incorporated in Ontario with its office at 295 The West Mall, Suite 700, Etobicoke, Ontario M9C 4Z4. Questions go to info@jilaniplace.com.

Who may play. Anyone with a Floor app member account, which is free and needs no tenancy, membership fee or purchase. You must be 18 or older, as our Terms of Use require for any account. No purchase is necessary to play or to win. Employees of Jilani Place Inc. and Cafe 295 may play but cannot win the prize. If one of them holds the Crown at 9pm Sunday, the prize goes to the best score of the week by a player who can win.

Where. The prize can only be collected in person in Etobicoke, Ontario.

How a pour is scored.Each cup scores out of 100: the closer to the line, the higher. Your pour's score is the average of the five, to one decimal place. Days and weeks are counted in Toronto time. Your phone and its screen can affect how precisely you tap.

Apple is not involved. Jilani Place runs the Crown alone. Apple is not a sponsor of it and is not involved with it in any way.

Fair play. The house deals the cups and scores every pour; the app only reports when you tapped. A pour that could not have been played by hand does not count. A pour must start before 9pm Sunday and finish within two minutes of starting; one that finishes later does not count. One account, one player. We may remove from the board, or withhold the prize for, any play made through more than one account, through automation, or through any other way around the rules.

What other members see. Your name, photo and best score are shown to other members, and the week's leader is named at the top of the Floor. Our Privacy Policy covers the game in section 10.

The prize. If the cafe cannot serve it, we give you a drink of equal or greater value. Jilani Place, not Cafe 295, is responsible for the prize. The drink has no cash value and cannot be exchanged or transferred. It is not Circle points or credit.

Changes. We may change these rules or end the game with notice in the app. A change never takes away a prize already won.
